Position Overview
The Plumber is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing plumbing systems and fixtures throughout school facilities. This licensed professional ensures reliable water supply, drainage, and plumbing functionality to support daily operations. The role requires technical expertise, knowledge of plumbing codes, and the ability to work independently on complex plumbing systems.
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, and repair plumbing systems including pipes, fixtures, valves, and water heaters
- Troubleshoot plumbing problems including leaks, clogs, and system malfunctions
- Perform preventative maintenance on plumbing systems and equipment
- Inspect plumbing systems for code compliance, leaks, and needed repairs
- Replace or repair defective plumbing components including pipes, fixtures, and water heaters
- Install and maintain water supply and drainage systems
- Test and verify plumbing systems meet code requirements and function properly
- Maintain accurate records of plumbing work, inspections, and repairs
- Coordinate with contractors for major plumbing projects or specialized installations
- Respond to emergency plumbing service calls, including after-hours when necessary
- Ensure compliance with plumbing codes and water quality regulations
- Train other staff on basic plumbing operation and water conservation
- Maintain tools, equipment, and plumbing parts inventory
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid journeyman or master plumber license as required by state/local regulations
- Minimum of 3-5 years of plumbing installation and repair experience
- Knowledge of plumbing systems, codes, and safety procedures
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, plumbing schematics, and technical manuals
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds
- Physical ability to work in confined spaces, crawl spaces, and various positions
- Valid driver's license
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends, or on-call for emergencies
Preferred Qualifications
- Master plumber license
- Experience with commercial or institutional plumbing systems
- Knowledge of water treatment, backflow prevention, and water conservation
- Experience in educational facilities or public sector
- Additional trade certifications or training

Work Environment
This position works throughout school facilities including restrooms, mechanical rooms, and throughout buildings. The role involves work in confined spaces, crawl spaces, and various conditions. The plumber typically works independently but coordinates with other facilities staff and contractors. The position requires flexibility to respond to emergency calls, which may involve evening, weekend, or on-call work, especially for critical plumbing issues like water leaks or system failures.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds or more on a regular basis. The role involves frequent standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching. Employees must be able to work in various weather conditions and environments, including outdoor settings. The position requires manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and the ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
