Position Overview

The Title I Aide provides targeted reading and math intervention support to students who need additional academic assistance. This federally-funded position works under the direction of certified teachers and Title I coordinators to implement intervention programs, monitor student progress, and help close achievement gaps. The aide works with small groups of students to reinforce foundational skills and support academic growth in reading and mathematics.

Responsibilities

Instructional Support

  • Provide instructional assistance to students under the direction of certified teachers
  • Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning concepts and skills
  • Assist teachers with lesson preparation, material organization, and classroom setup
  • Support students with academic tasks, following teacher guidance and instructional plans
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to teachers on student performance
  • Assist with classroom management and behavior support strategies
  • Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and productive learning environment
  • Support students with diverse learning needs and accommodations
  • Assist with technology integration and use of instructional tools and resources

Student Supervision

  • Supervise student behavior and enforce safety rules and regulations
  • Monitor students and provide appropriate assistance as needed
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies including medical situations and behavioral incidents
  • Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents regarding student behavior and incidents
  • Complete required documentation including incident reports and behavior logs
  • Maintain order and discipline while fostering a positive environment
  • Attend mandatory safety meetings and training sessions on student supervision

Intervention Instruction

  • Implement reading and math intervention programs as directed by teachers
  • Work with small groups of students to reinforce foundational literacy and numeracy skills
  • Provide targeted instruction in phonics, reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary
  • Support students with math concepts including number sense, operations, and problem-solving
  • Use research-based intervention strategies and materials
  • Adapt instruction to meet individual student needs and learning styles
  • Provide immediate feedback and encouragement to students during intervention sessions

Progress Monitoring

  • Collect data on student progress and performance during intervention sessions
  • Document student responses, errors, and growth for progress monitoring
  • Assist teachers with administering assessments and progress checks
  • Help track student attendance and participation in intervention programs
  • Support data analysis and reporting for Title I program requirements
  • Communicate student progress and concerns to teachers and coordinators

Program Support

  • Prepare and organize intervention materials and resources
  • Set up and maintain intervention learning spaces and materials
  • Assist with Title I program planning and coordination
  • Support family engagement activities related to Title I services
  • Participate in Title I meetings and professional development as requested

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (minimum)
  • Associate's degree, two years of college coursework, or passing score on paraeducator assessment (as required by state/district)
  • Ability to pass background check and fingerprint clearance
  • Basic reading and math skills sufficient to support student learning
  • Understanding of foundational reading and math concepts
  • Ability to follow directions and implement intervention programs accurately
  • Patience and positive attitude when working with struggling learners
  • Strong communication skills for working with students, teachers, and families
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding student information

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or higher in education, reading, mathematics, or related field
  • Previous experience working with students in reading or math intervention
  • Training in reading intervention programs (e.g., Orton-Gillingham, Wilson Reading)
  • Training in math intervention strategies and programs
  • Experience working with students who have learning difficulties
  • Knowledge of Title I program requirements and federal regulations
  • Understanding of progress monitoring and data collection practices
  • Bilingual skills (as applicable to district needs)
  • Training in differentiated instruction and learning support strategies

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong understanding of foundational reading skills (phonics, fluency, comprehension)
  • Solid knowledge of basic math concepts and problem-solving strategies

Work Environment

This position works primarily in small group settings, providing targeted intervention instruction to students who need additional academic support. The Title I aide may work in dedicated intervention rooms, pull-out settings, or within classrooms. The role involves working with small groups of students (typically 3-6 students) for focused intervention sessions. The position requires flexibility to adapt to different student needs and may involve working with students across multiple grade levels.

Physical Requirements

This position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and kneel frequently throughout the workday. The role involves occasional lifting and carrying of materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds. Employees must be able to move around the classroom and school building, assist students with mobility needs, and participate in physical activities as part of instructional support. The position requires manual dexterity for handling instructional materials and technology.
